Success Stories
Many projects present unique circumstances with specialized criteria that can make for a challenging scenario. It's our ability to deliver results in these "unique" situations that make us different.
Meyer Scherer Rockcastle Architects
Situation
Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle, Ltd., (MS&R) is a highly respected architectural firm with library clients nationwide. An LFI presentation at MS&R in 2002 produced interest in our Danish Steel Shelving, Biblomodel, for the firm’s resource library in its new corporate office, located within the National Historic Landmark Washburn A Mill complex on the Mississippi Riverfront. The design challenge was threefold. First, the shelving must accommodate various types of shelves and features required to house and display all of the materials used by architects and designers. Second, the resource library extended onto two floors, therefore requiring shelving that could attach to steel tubes extending through the ceiling from one floor into the floor above. This arrangement would allow for storage on shelves 10’ off the floor. Finally, the shelving needed to meet the aesthetics required to fit the MS&R image for its new corporate office.
Result
MS&R liked the style of our Biblomodel shelving and the option to select from both free-standing and wall-mounting shelving. Both styles of shelving use the same shelves and accessories. They chose the new “Face Front” shelves for the shelving arrangement in the front lobby of their office to display specialty magazines.
LFI installed the “wall-mount shelving” on 12’ high steel tubes that extend from the 7th floor through the ceiling to the 8th floor. It required precise and accurate measuring and leveling. If the shelving was off by even an 1/8,” the shelves would not fit. Our factory-trained installation team was able to successfully install all the shelving, while compensating for the irregularities of the steel tubes.
We prescribed to MS&R a “continuous shelf” for boxed or larger items that required deep storage. The “continuous shelf” is accomplished in a double-face shelving scenario with a special “bridge” that fits between the back on the opposing shelves. The result is a 26” deep shelf for storage of larger items, accessible on both sides of the shelving.
MS&R also liked the clean design of the shelf ends, which eliminated the need for expensive end panels. The standard white finish is suitably neutral and bright for the overall aesthetic of the space.
